National carrier Air India today received the National Energy Conservation Award 2009 for its efforts in saving fuel and reducing carbon emission.
The airline was awarded the first prize in general category of the awards instituted by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency and the Power Ministry.
Following various procedures in operational areas aimed at helping to reduce carbon emissions the fuel consumption of the national carrier fell by 12.5 per cent reduction in 2008-09 as compared to 2007-08.
According to official sources, a total carbon dioxide saving of 237,755,146 kgs has been achieved from April, 2007 to March 31 2009.
