Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Korean Tourism Organisation (KTO) to initiate and promote exchange of tourism between India and Korea. Jumin Hong, Vice President, KTO invited Mr. Rajinder Rai, Vice President, TAAI for signing the MoU. Amongst those present at the ceremony were Sanjay Narula, Managing Committee Member and Co-Convention Chairman, TAAI; Tae Shik Kim, Director, New Delhi Office, KTO and Kavi Ghei, Director, TRAC Representations (I) Pvt. Ltd. The MoU document, which non-binding and non-legal by nature will be a record of mutual understanding and intention of working together towards widening the scope of tourism exchange between the two organisations that are of great importance to travel trade in both countries.
TAAI will support KTO in tourism marketing and vice versa. Both organisations will exchange information pertaining to policies related to tourism development. The salient features of the agreement are to identify bottlenecks in the further expansion of tourism traffic, facilitate organisation of seminars, workshops, and interface meetings and make every effort for enhancing mutual relationship.
Mr. Rajinder Rai stated that Buddhist Travel accounted for about 10 to 12 per cent of the total of 4.63 million tourists who visited India in 2006-07. As infrastructure in the Buddhist circuit gets better the interest of pilgrims from Japan and Korea will increase. Travel Agents are preparing new itineraries for these circuits. He also said that Chartered flights are being organised and new hotels will be started in this area.
